U12 Cricket Masterclass and matches vs Monmouth School

On Saturday the U12s travelled to Monmouth School to experience a cricket masterclass from Danielle Gibson who is in the Player pathway for England and plays for Western Storm. The girls received some tips in both batting and fielding and played some fun and engaging games in preparation for the afternoon matches. The girls also got the opportunity to ask Danielle some questions about her cricket experiences and were inspired by her achievements. Following a lovely lunch, the girls played their 2 fixtures in incredibly hot and exhausting conditions. The first match we opened the batting with Ruby Butterfield and Tamia Salter. It started well, With Ruby Butterfield scoring a 6 and they finished their overs with a total of 17. Further strong batting came from Freya McIntyre, Eva Helly-Osborne and Seren Davies and RHS finished on 278. Monmouth then came into bat and it was looking good for RHS who were limiting the runs and managed to get 4 players out. However, a fantastic final over from the Monmouth batter with 3 6s and a 4 snatched the victory from RHS. The final score was 278 – 281 to Monmouth.

In the second match, the girls were really struggling from a long day of sport in high temperatures. They came across a strong Monmouth team. We started well, with 2 excellent overs from Eva Helly Osbourne and Rosie Brook which kept the Monmouth score low, as did some strong fielding from Summer Parry and Jemima Lawrie to stop the boundaries. However, in the latter overs, the Monmouth batting was too strong for the fatigued RHS team and they finished with a high score of 294. RHS came into bat whilst we scored some great 4s from ruby Butterfield, Seren Davies and Freya McIntyre, we were caught or stumped out too many times, which caused too many deductions from our high scores. The match finished 294 – 250.

It was a great experience for the girls and one that we hope can be repeated next year. We would like to thank Monmouth for being such great hosts.

U13 Stonar Cricket Festival

On Monday the U13s travelled to Stonar to take part in their first Girls’ Cricket Festival. 4 teams contested for the shield. Our first match was against Stonar A. We fielded first and bowled fantastically well with our first two bowlers, Jasmine White and Lucy Smith both taking wickets. This was followed by Eloisa Lunn who took a great catch off her own bowl. Holly Lancaster and Ellie Boardman continued with excellent overs giving away only 3 runs each. Lottie Ravenhill and Lucy Smith opened the batting and remained in for the majority of the match scoring numerous runs and putting the pressure on the Stonar fielders. RHS managed to achieve the required score with one over remaining and therefore won the match 39 – 37.

In the second match we faced a strong Warminster team who had wo n their previous game convincingly. Warminster opted to field so Lottie Silverton and Lottie Ravenhill opened the batting. Lottie Silverton was outstanding scoring 6 4s. Holly Lancaster also came into bat later in the match and scored well. We achieved a total of 58 runs. The opening batter for Warminster was strong, scoring 3 4s in the first over putting the pressure on RHS. However, another great over from the captain Holly Lancaster and a wicket by Anja Woosnam put a stop to Warminster’s high scoring play. The match finished 58 – 43 to RHS and put us in a strong position to make the final.

Our third match was against the Stonar B team and we were confident that with another solid performance we would be in the final. Jasmine White and Lottie Silverton opened the batting and had scored 50 after 3 overs. We finished the innings with a total of 72. Another excellent bowling display from Anja Woosnam, Jasmine White and Holly Lancaster meant that Stonar found it difficult to score and the match finished 72 – 28 to RHS.

In the final we came back up against Warminster and knew it was going to be a tough match. We lost the toss and again Warminster opted to field first. Lottie Ravenhill and Lottie Silverton open the batting and made a strong start. However, the wicket keeper took a great catch from Lottie Ravenhill and Holly Lancaster took over. We continued to score well with a number of 4s from both batters. We finished the innings with a total score of 61 runs. Lucy Smith open the bowling with an amazing over, taking one wicket and only giving 4 runs away. This was followed up by Holly Lancaster who also took a wicket and only gave 5 runs away. Ellie Boardmaan finished the game with her usual consistent, fast paced bowls making it difficult for Warminster. However, they managed to get a few boundaries and it became very tight. Luckily however we managed to hold on and the match finished 61 – 55 to RHS. It was a fantastic competition and the RHS girls performed consistently well and fully deserved to finish as winners.
