District Netball Success for Royal High

Tuesday 13th November saw The Royal High’s U16 Netball team romp to success at the District Netball Tournament. The matches were played on Kingswood’s courts and the Royal High both organised and ran the event for all of the 8 competing schools in Bath. The girls put out a dominant performance against every school coming away with victory in every match. Bath champions! Our first placed position takes us through to the next County round, on Monday 26th November. The Royal High will compete there for 2 coveted places at the Regional tournament.

GDST Hockey Rally

U15 Trust Hockey - 8th November 2018

The Year 10 hockey team travelled to Oxford for the U15 Trust Hockey Rally, they played seven other schools in the group stage of the event. It was a great day of hockey with lots of learning throughout games which positively impacted upon the team’s performance. It was an excellent opportunity to play new opposition and whilst our girls showed excellent team spirit a special mention must go to our two Year 9 players who were a great addition to the team. Mrs McArthur and Mrs Potter were very pleased and proud of the team’s performance and are looking forward to the rest of the hockey season!

Squad: Phoebe Wirick, Lottie Daniels, Lily Enright, Maddie Everett-Heath, Carlotta Fedrizzi, Ella Firmstone, Hannah Ford, Ava Karanjavala, Dorothy-Rose Mulcahy, Ella Condrau, Emmaline Feast-Michael, Emilie Kirkwood, Ellie Green, Katy Lohner-Benson

Jumping for Joy

Tegan Rowlands in Year 11 competed at the Bury Farm Equestrian centre in Buckinghamshire last weekend and had a very successful show with her ponies, where she picked up 3 major qualifications. Tegan was competing against some of the best riders in the country in the 148cms (ponies) section with her much smaller 138cms stallion. Undeterred by the daunting challenge, Tegan came away with some incredible results. She won the Bluechip JA Sparkle on Grey Palace (in pic), Tegan was also 3rd in the Bluechip JC Sparkle section on Brooklyn and then an amazing 2nd in the Bluechip Coral qualifier on Limited Edition.

We are very proud indeed of Tegan who has qualified for a very prestigious show next year, the Bluechip Finals (at Hartpury) and we look forward to following her progress.

Hockey

Year 10 Vs Redmaids High School - 10th November 2018

Result: 0-2 loss

The Year 10 team played well against an evenly matched Redmaids High opposition and had several forays into their attacking D. However, 2 break away goals, one in each half thwarted the chance of a victory. All should be proud of their efforts, clearly having gained good match experience after the Trust Rally in Oxford last week. There is more to come from this team!

Mrs Potter

The U14s played incredibly well against Redmaids, with some excellent individual skills from Clementine Gallen and Emilie Kirkwood creating many scoring chances and short corners. The girls demonstrated a great attitude in difficult weather conditions, never dropping their standard of play. A long corner taken by Holly Stephens led to our goal.

A great performance by all of the team, which is very promising as they get closer to the GDST Hockey Weekend on the 23rd November.

Swimming

On Monday night we took a team to the Bristol Schools Swimming Association Gala, where we had some excellent performances both individually and as a team. The squad was led well by Darcy Gresham, Imogen Rafferty and Charlotte Emptage, who were great role models and support for the team. Stand out performances were Sophie Jones who won her heat in the 50m Breaststroke, Emily Jones who won her heat in the 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly and our Open Medley relay team finished 2nd in a very exciting final race of the gala.

Congratulations to all girls who swam.

Darcy Gresham, Imogen Rafferty, Charlotte Emptage, Georgie Richardson, Isobel Giles, Christine Weinhardt, Lottie Silverton, Rebecca Emptage, Ellie Gresham, Emily Jones and Sophie Jones.

U12 Netball

On Thursday the U12 netball team travelled to Oxford to take part in the GDST Trust Netball Tournament. The day started with a couple of close games unfortunately not going in our favour. With only 5 minute halves the girls quickly learnt the importance of playing their best straight from the starting whistle. As the day progressed, the girls took the experiences of the previous games to build their play throughout the court.

Some great defending in the circle by Isabella and Zarah, as well as a solid performance from Sophie in the Centre helped to secure the team’s first draw. In the following game, the team continued to improve; good shooting from Emily and Seren combined with Ruby and Poppy helping to create more space throughout the court, resulted in a great win against Norwich. In the next couple of games the girls were unlucky, with the scores not reflecting the work put in by the team. The penultimate game of the initial pool provided the girls with a tough match against the eventual overall winners, Wimbledon.

Even though the opposition were much taller and played well, Kitty got a series of good tips interrupting the other team’s flow of play allowing us to reduce their lead. After a tough game, the girls showed great focus coming back to win their final game 6-0 helped particularly by Summer who demonstrated versatility playing out of her normal position of shooter to play in the defending circle, and by Freya who preventing the ball making it down the court through close marking and interceptions.

Overall the day was an excellent experience for all the girls. They implemented many of the set plays learnt in training, as well as gelling as team in what was their first tournament together. The girls all did fantastic and showed great potential for the season ahead.
