U13 Cricket
The U13s played cricket against Westonbirt on Saturday morning out on the Paddock Field. It was lovely to have continued parental support at the match which really encouraged the girls. We had some fantastic bowling performances with Holly Lancaster and Jess Lewis both taking 2 wickets each. Lucy Smith, Alice Watkinson, Martha Frank and Elly Boardman also took wickets, giving us an achievable target for our innings. Our first 2 pairs of Anja Woosnam and Lottie Ravenhill and Lucy Smith and Jess Lewis both scored 16 each and then Elly Boardman with Lottie Ravenhill again scored 21 in the last 3 overs, with some excellent shots. RHS were victorious with a final score of 116 – 70. Well done girls!
Athletics
It has been a busy and successful week for athletics with both the English Schools and District competitions taking place.
The English schools competition is a team event where year 7s and 8s compete together as Junior Girls and the Year 9s and 10s compete together as Inter Girls. Each athlete has to do 1 track and 1 field event, so it is a real test for the athletes.
In the Junior girls competition, there were 9 schools competing and RHS finished 2nd overall with some fantastic performances. A number of girls scored well over 20 points which is an excellent achievement and we hope we have done enough to qualify for the Regional round, however, we will have to wait until the other South West competitions have been completed to find out. The squad was: Lottie Silverton, Evie Butterfield, Lucy Smith, Natasha David, India Vance, Elly Boardman, Emily Jones, Sophie Jones, Ruby Butterfield, Abella Duncan, Poppy Hewitt Smith.
In the Inter Girls competition, there were 10 schools competing and again we finished 2nd overall. A couple of girls achieved over the 20pt mark with excellent performances on the track and in the field. The squad Lottie Frank, Libby Hawkins, Lily Enright, Daisy Barrow, Ava Karanjavala, Sophie Moore, Emilie Kirkwood, Amy Hutcheson, Amelie Summers, Jemima Honeyborne and Charli Emptage.
Well done girls and fingers crossed we qualify for the next round!
On Tuesday, we competed in the District Championships at Bath University. Here the girls were competing to qualify individually for the County Championships, but their results also contributed to a team score. A number of RHS athletes placed 1st or 2nd in their events meaning they achieved qualification to represent Avon in these championships on the 8th June. These athletes were Sophie Jones 100m, Abella Duncan 100m, Sophie Moore 300m, Emily Jones 800m, Lottie Silverton 1500m and High Jump, Libby Hawkins Triple Jump, Georgie Richardson and Jemima Honeyborne Discus, Lottie Frank High Jump.
In addition to all of these individual successes, the Junior Girls team were awarded BANES District Winners so congratulations to Lottie Silverton, Evie Butterfield, Ruby Butterfield, Georgie Richardson, Jemima Honeyborne and Emilie Kirkwood.
