Trust Cricket and Tennis Rally – Queenswood College

Our Tennis squad competed in the GDST Tennis Rally on Wednesday 26th June. On a glorious day in an idyllic setting our girls competed well. We were an inexperienced squad, none of which had played in this tournament before. Some solid results in the group stages saw them advance to the quarter finals which was an excellent achievement. In the quarter finals we came up against a very strong Bromley team who beat us and went on to compete in the final. A very positive day. Lots of experience gained and looking forward to competing next year.

The U14 cricket team had a fantastic tournament last week at the latest Trust Rally in Hatfield. Our first match was against a very strong U15 Oxford team who had recently come back from a National competition so we faced a very tough first test and although we lost the opening game, we learnt a lot in terms of tactical fielding and communication whilst batting. We also lost to Sydenham High School by 8 runs but showed remarkable improvement all round. Our final games were against Northwood College and Nottingham High School and we won both of these games. The girls bowled brilliantly leading to us taking some wickets and when it was our turn to bat, we started to think more about gaps in the field and keeping the ball low to avoid being caught. It was fantastic for the team to reach the knock out stages, particularly when they were competing a year young and we are all excited about what this team can produce in the same tournament next year.

Congratulations to Ellie

Ellie competed in the South West Schools Championships 2 weekends ago and selectors had to pick 40 athletes from 130 competitors to progress to Nationals, this was from all ages groups, genders and track/field.

Ellie was one of only 8 U17 girl athletes picked to represent Avon at the Nationals, and was the only hurdler. She leaves with the team on Thu 11th, and will be with them at all times. She will be competing on Friday 12th for heats and semis. The Olympic parade is on the Saturday. The event will be live streamed. We will be following her progress and wish her luck at this event.

Success for Lottie

On 22nd June Lottie Silverton took part in the National Laser Run Championships. There were 17 people in her race from all over the UK. Lottie had to shoot 4 times and run 400m x 4. Lottie came 2nd overall, meaning she is eligible to qualify to represent Great Britain in the European and World Laser Run Championships this Summer. We would also like to congratulate Lottie on her fantastic achievements in athletics this season. Lottie won the 1500m at Trust Athletics, The County round of the English Schools competition the Minors Athletics Competition and the District Championships and finally at the County Championships. She then qualified for the Regional competition where she achieved a PB and went under 5 minutes for the first time.

GDST Netball Squad

2 of our girls have been selected to be part of the GDST Netball squad, which is a fantastic achievement! The amount of girls playing netball across the GDST schools is extremely high, as is the standard, so huge congratulations to Mia Regan and Phoebe Aisher who have been selected for the squad and will attend further training sessions in November at Northampton School.
